About Mentoring in IBD
The annual Mentoring in IBD curriculum has become increasingly popular among Canadian specialists. One reason for this steadily increasing popularity is the consistent, practical and clinically relevant objectives governing the development of each component:
- Increase awareness of new developments and best practices in IBD management
- Promote collaboration among Canadian gastroenterologists
- Optimize treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.
During the 25 years since the first symposium, Mentoring in IBD has evolved into an innovative and successful annual educational program for Canadian gastroenterologists. Mentoring in IBD now includes regional satellite meetings in both official languages, a website, a newsletter series, and regular electronic communications answering key clinical questions with new research. Each new initiative has provided gastroenterologists with a fresh opportunity to update their knowledge, share their experience with colleagues and expand their clinical expertise.
What is Mentoring in IBD Curriculum?
The Curriculum consists of seven integrated components:
Mentoring in IBD: The Master Class Annual National Symposium
The 25th iteration on November 8, 2024 — A proven formula of clinically relevant state-of-the-art lectures on hot topics in tandem with expert-led, case-based workshops and open discussions with distinguished faculty and peers to address the complexities of IBD diagnosis and management.
IBD Dialogue
A newsletter launched in 2004, IBD Dialogue communicates new developments and best practices in IBD management as it reports the participant consensus of each case-based workshop discussed at the MIIBD National Symposium. Now distributed electronically, IBD Dialogue will publish 3 issues in 2025. All participants of MIIBD national and regional symposia receive IBD Dialogue by email as part of the post-program learning requirements.
www.mentoringinibd.com provides Canadian and international gastroenterologists with an archive of materials generated from Mentoring in IBD courses. Among other features, the site allows registered users to obtain educational credits, correspond wtih peers and international experts and download MIIBD publications including IBD Dialogue (both Classic and Special Editions), E-Mentoring in IBD and The Dermatology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
E-Mentoring in IBD
Launched in 2008 and delivered electronically twice each month to 1,400 current subscribers across Canada and around the world, E-Mentoring in IBD asks a clinical IBD question and provides a two-sentence bottom-line answer based upon the results of a key paper from the current research literature. Level of evidence and hyperlinks to the source complement the project. All participants of Mentoring in IBD national and regional symposia receive E-Mentoring in IBD by email as part of the post-program learning requirements.
Mentorat sur les MII—Quebec
Created in response to the needs of Francophone gastroenterologists in 2004, and based on the MIIBD National Symposium content each year, Dr Alain Bitton will convene the 21st annual Mentorat sur les MII symposium in Quebec in Q2 2025.
Mentoring in IBD—Western Canada Satellite Symposium
A customized chapter of the MIIBD National Symposium for Western Canada. Co-Chairs, Brian Bressler and Greg Rosenberg, will convene the 16th annual meeting in Vancouver in Q2 2025.
Mentoring in IBD—Atlantic Canada Satellite Symposium
A customized chapter of the MIIBD National Symposium for Atlantic Canada. Drs. Christopher Sheasgreen and Chadwick Williams will Co-Chair the 15th annual symposium in the Maritimes in Q2 2025.
