Sun exposure

Some IBD medications, such as immunosuppressants, can make your skin more sensitive to sun damage.

Stay in the shade and wear covered clothing when possible. Always protect yourself with a water-resistant, cream-based sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, with UVA and UVB protection (broad spectrum). Apply sunscreen liberally 15-30 minutes before going outdoors, and reapply every two hours or after swimming.

When you need both insect repellent and sunscreen, apply the sunscreen first to ensure its effectiveness.
