Community Outreach Lead - Barrie

Volunteers play an integral role in delivering our promise of finding cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improving the lives of Canadians living with these chronic diseases. As a volunteer with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, the impact of your efforts will be felt by the millions of Canadians affected by Crohn's or colitis today, and for years to come.  
 
We are seeking individuals who are passionate about making a difference in their community to join a team of dedicated volunteers in the role of Community Outreach Lead.  
 
This role involves in-person interactions. 
 
Are you the right fit for the Community Outreach Lead? 
 
As the Community Outreach Lead, you will provide support including: 
  • Adhering to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada policies and procedures, including the Volunteer Code of Conduct  
  • Work closely with staff partner to implement advocacy and awareness initiatives in the local community 
  • Build relationships with local community partners  and venues (schools, Service clubs, Employee Health events, Health Partners) to secure opportunities for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada to share organizational and disease-related information  
  • Participate in local, regional and national advocacy opportunities (i.e. Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Month) including liaison with locally-implemented advocacy projects like GoHere Washroom Access Initiative 
  • Participate as available on task forces and working groups on national advocacy projects and initiatives 

Time Commitment: 

  • 3-5 hours per week for ongoing support and liaison with staff partner  
  • Evening and weekend activity is required to attend meetings and capture high traffic times. Some daytime availability is ideal for liaison with staff partner (phone calls, emails) 
  • This role requires a commitment of a minimum of 1 year 

What you bring: 

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written and very comfortable with public speaking  
  • Strong ties within the local community are an asset. A desire and aptitude for networking and building relationships of various types. Responsive to timely needs and opportunities
