Speaker bio Dr. Robert Battat Gastroenterologist and Attending Physician & Scientist CHUM Dr. Robert Battat is a gastroenterologist specializing in Crohn’s and colitis and an Attending Physician and Scientist at CHUM, where he leads the Center for Clinical Excellence and Translational Research in IBD. He has extensive experience caring for patients at all stages and is recognized internationally for his expertise. He has published widely on treatment optimization and post-surgical outcomes, contributes to international IBD guidelines, and regularly lectures across Canada and around the world. His work bridges clinical care and research, helping patients access the most effective therapies available. Lived experience speaker Sophie Dufresne Crohn's and Colitis Advocate Member of the Crohn's and Colitis Canada community Sophie Dufresne was diagnosed with Crohn’s in 1992 and has undergone multiple surgeries, including colon resections and gallbladder removal. Sophie is an active member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada community, sharing her experiences to support newly diagnosed individuals. Professionally, she works as a Business Analyst and has a background in customer service. A devoted mother and active individual, Sophie enjoys hiking, swimming, and reading. Sophie shares her personal journey navigating treatments, surgeries, and life with IBD, offering hope and insight on living fully while managing a chronic disease.
