Agenda & Learning Objectives

Participants in this program will:

  • Understand the current status of the GEM and PACE studies
  • Explore the role of cancer and IBD from basic science to clinical interventions
  • Explore the basic science of fibrosis in IBD and current and future treatment options
  • Integrate basic science and clinical practice by participating in a choice of workshops:
    • By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to consider the non-bacterial microbiome and its potential application to therapy in the future
    • By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to discuss the current vaccination recommendations for IBD
    • By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to consider pediatric and adult surgery in IBD
    • By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to discuss transgender issues related to IBD
  • Explore the pathophysiology and treatment options for pain management in IBD

  • 1 in 140 Canadians lives with Crohn’s or colitis.
  • Families new to Canada are developing these diseases for the first time.
  • Incidence of Crohn’s in Canadian kids under 10 has doubled since 1995.
  • People are most commonly diagnosed before age 30.
