Statement from Crohn's and Colitis Canada

Dark background with Crohn

As many around the world, we are horrified by the devastating attacks in Israel committed by Hamas last weekend. Our thoughts and hopes are for the safety and protection of all innocent civilians and for stability in the region as quickly as possible.

As an organization focused on improving the quality of life of people with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, and who values inclusivity, we stand against terrorism, antisemitism and all forms of hate and discrimination. We send a message of compassion and support for everyone impacted.

For those affected by inflammatory bowel disease, please know you are not alone. If you are experiencing mental health challenges or stress-related flares, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada provides a number of resources to support you.

  • Canada has among the highest incidence rates of Crohn's and colitis in the world.
  • 1 in 140 Canadians lives with Crohn’s or colitis.
  • Families new to Canada are developing these diseases for the first time.
  • Incidence of Crohn’s in Canadian kids under 10 has doubled since 1995.
  • People are most commonly diagnosed before age 30.
