Role impact

As the French Translator, you will play a critical role in ensuring that Crohn’s and Colitis Canada communicate clearly, accurately, and meaningfully with our Francophone audiences nationwide. This role exists to ensure that every program, campaign, and resource is accessible in both official languages, enabling the organization to deliver equitable support, information, and advocacy to all communities affected by inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). By leading translation efforts, coordinating French‑language content, and upholding linguistic and brand standards, you help bring Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s mission and voice to life in ways that are culturally relevant, consistent, and credible.

This is a part-time, 4-days a week, contract role ending in December 2026.

Salary range is $60,000-75,000 per annum.

Qualifications

  • University degree in translation (or related field like linguistics, languages, philology with specialization in translation, interpretation, or terminology; including both English and French) or a degree in a related discipline 
  • 2 years of full‑time translation in at least one official language, or professional bilingual experience with strong written communication component.
  • Excellent command of both French (native or near‑native proficiency; C1 or C2 levels) and English.
  • Proven experience in translation, editing, and proofreading, ideally within the nonprofit, healthcare, or communications sector.
  • Strong attention to linguistic detail, nuance, and cultural context.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Familiarity with terminology related to health, research, or chronic disease an asset
  • Experience with content management systems, translation tools, or digital communication platforms is an asset. 
  • Collaborative working style with strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Translate written and verbal materials accurately between English and French to support organizational communications.
  • Edit, proofread, and quality‑check all French‑language content to ensure grammatical accuracy, consistency, and adherence to brand and style guidelines.
  • Recommend translation or French alternatives for new campaign and program concepts and creative, maintaining the same or similar spirit to the English counterpart that will appeal to Francophone audiences. 
  • Work closely across all teams to meet project timelines and language needs.
  • Liaise with external translation vendors or freelancers when required, managing timelines, quality expectations, and project workflows.
  • Provide guidance on French‑language best practices to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update French terminology, style guides, and translation memory resources to support organizational consistency.
  • Support the development and scheduling of French‑language materials across digital channels, including websites, email campaigns, social media, as well as ensuring print assets are optimized with the French language considered.
