Gutsy Walk Volunteer Coordinator - Edmonton

Gutsy Walk is Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s signature national fundraising event celebrated on the first Sunday of June each year. Thousands of people across Canada come together on one day to raise money to advance medical research and improve the lives of Canadians who are affected by these diseases.  

This role involves in-person interactions.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Adhere to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada policies and procedures, including the Volunteer Code of Conduct  
  • Assist in recruiting, screening, and onboarding volunteers for various event roles to create a positive Gutsy Walk experience. 
  • Actively participate in Gutsy Walk Committee meetings and support other leadership volunteers 
  • Create a schedule to ensure all event areas are adequately staffed with volunteers and regularly update your staff partner and committee members on filled and vacant positions. 
  • Participate or watch webinar trainings offered nationally to be familiar with processes and tools available to you 
  • Set up a central location to welcome event day volunteers, serving as their main contact point for check-in, distributing pinnies and name tags, directing them to their assigned areas and team members, and expressing gratitude during and after the event.  
  • Ensure that a master schedule, provided by your staff support, is available on-site with emergency contact information, procedures, and plans. 
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all volunteers during the event, acting as the liaison between volunteers and committee members, using WhatsApp or walkie-talkies to stay in communication with other leads. Monitor volunteer assignments to ensure all event areas are adequately staffed and redirect volunteers to different tasks or areas as needed. 


 Time Commitment: 

  • Approximately 2 hours a month from April to June to attend committee meetings and attend a post-event wrap up meeting. 
  • Available 8 hours on event day.  
  • Some daytime availability is ideal for making phone calls and responding to emails 

What you bring: 

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellent customer service and timely response.  
  • Strong communication skills in English/French.  
  • Collaborative, flexible, team player attitude facilitates cooperation and results.  
  • Experience recruiting and scheduling volunteers is an asset.
