Volunteering for Camp Got2Go
Crohn’s and Colitis Canada promises to find the cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improve the lives of children and adults affected by these chronic diseases. Volunteers are key team members who help us deliver on this promise to every Canadian who is impacted by these devastating chronic diseases. Below are a list of volunteer postings for our 2023 camp programs.
Are you the right fit to join our team as a camp counsellor?
Location: Alberta (3 positions), Nova Scotia (3 positions)
As the counsellor, your responsibilities include the following;
- Creating a supportive, fun and safe community for the campers
- Leading and supporting campers as they participate in age-appropriate activities
- Monitoring campers to ensure compliance with camp rules and prevent accidents
- Participate in the activities with campers, supervise their campers, and assist their campers as needed
- Working with the camp management staff to create the best possible experience for campers
- Maintaining a positive, solution focused attitude
- Volunteers must be a minimum age of 18 to join us
Time Commitment:
- Available for the duration of camp (5-7 days), including evenings and overnights
- Available for virtual volunteer training and on-site training on arrival day
- Available to support Camp Got2Go preparations on arrival day and closing duties on departure day
What you bring:
- Past experience working in a camp setting is considered an asset
- Experience working with children and youth and/or in a camp setting is an asset
- An understanding of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis considered an asset
- Strong communication skills
Are you the right fit to join our team as a camp nurse?
Location: Alberta (1 on-call position), Ontario (1 on-call position)
As a Camp Got2Go Nurse, your responsibilities include the following:
- Review and abide by all camp policies and procedures, including COVID-19 policies and procedures
- Review all camper health and medication profiles before camp
- Provide first aid or medical care to all campers/volunteers/Camp Got2Go staff when needed
- Complete a camper check-in on arrival day and provide first aid and health checks when needed
- Ensure the nursing station is kept clean and stocked with appropriate supplies and medications
- Keep clear and accurate records, including a log of all medications administered
- Make sure all medications are stored in a safe and secure environment
- Review camper schedules to ensure medication is administered beforehand or supplied during out/overnight trips
- Must review camper medical information before the start of camp
- Rotate on-call overnight shifts throughout the week
Time Commitment:
- Available for the duration of camp (5-7 days), including evenings and overnights
- Available for virtual volunteer training and on-site training on arrival day
What you bring:
- Licensed Registered Nurse with liability insurance
- At least 1-2 years of experience as a Licensed Registered Nurse; experience with IBD patients is ideal
- Experience working in a camp setting is considered an asset
- Experience working with children and youth is an asset
- Access to a vehicle is considered an asset
Are you the right fit to join our team as a camp social worker?
Location: Alberta (1 position), Ontario (1 position)
As a Camp Got2Go social worker your responsibilities include:
- Review camper profiles prior to the camp start date
- Work alongside Camp Got2Go staff and volunteers to provide a positive and safe experience for campers
- Work one-on-one with campers who are experiencing difficulty participating in the program
- Intervene if a camper is experiencing significant behavioural or mental health challenges
- Support program staff in the event of a mental health crisis/emergency
- Document incident reports as needed
Time Commitment:
- Available onsite for the duration of the camp including days, evenings and overnights
- Available for virtual volunteer training and on-site training on arrival day
What you bring:
- Suitable candidate must be enrolled in a Master of Social Work program OR a registered Social Worker in Canada
- Previous experience providing support to children and young adults with complex needs is considered an asset
- Access to a vehicle is considered an asset
Are you the right fit to join our team as and arrival/departure (airport) volunteer?
Location: Alberta (2 positions), Nova Scotia (2 positions), Ontario (2 positions)
As an arrival/departure volunteer, you and Crohn's and Colitis Canada staff will assist in camper travel coordination, including:
- Greet campers as they arrive at the Calgary, Halifax or Toronto International Airports
- Ensure all campers and their belongings are accounted for
- Ensure campers board the van to camp
- Ensure all campers are checked-in for their departure flights
- Ensure campers make it through security
- Supervise campers at their gate
Time Commitment:
- 4-5 hours on arrival day and departure day
- Available for virtual volunteer training
What you bring:
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong communication skills
- Passion for helping others
- Insight into Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
- Experience working with children and youth is considered an asset

The Volunteer Application Process:
- Interested volunteers can complete our online application.
- You will be contacted by a member of our team to set up an interview.
- After interviews, if selected, you will receive a confirmation email, which will confirm the role and give you information on next steps.
- Before camp, we’ll need proof of a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- As of March 1, 2022, all volunteers with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada whose responsibilities involve in-person interactions must be fully vaccinated.
- You’ll receive a Volunteer Manual, which will give you all of the information you’ll need and you will take part in a training session before your role begins.
